Tulsa Football’s Chris Paul is This Week’s Community Hero!
Ever since connecting with Chris Paul at the 2022 Senior Bowl where we hosted our Empowerment Workshop with NFL prospects, we knew he was the epitome of what our organization is all about. He’s recently signed on to be a AFH Whole Being Athlete Mental Health Ambassador and gotten involved in our Hospital Heroes program – all within two weeks of the NFL Draft! So it’s no surprise that’s he’s our Community Hero of the Week.
Prior to getting involved with Athlete for Hope, Chris advocated for his peers on campus at the University of Tulsa as well as at conference and national levels. He served on the Executive Board for the American Athletic Conference’s SAAC group and during his time on the board he helped better the lives of thousands of student-athletes. Chris helped found The Black Men’s Initiative student organization, which aims to provide opportunities for Black men to gather and connect on Tulsa’s campus and he also helped to start an initiative centered around the normalization of mental health called PowerfulMinds.
Chris is now continuing his desire to help in the mental health space as an AFH Mental Health Ambassador. He has a shared goal of continuing to have courageous conversations about mental health with other professional AFH Athletes and using his platform to increase awareness and access to mental health resources.
This past week Chris also found time to virtually visit with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital through our AFH Hospital Heroes program. Chris was able to put a smile on many patients faces and generated excitement for patients ahead of the upcoming NFL draft.
We look forward to continuing to work with Chris and help him pursue his passion for giving back and doing amazing work in the community!
