Development Manager

Job Summary:

Athletes for Hope is seeking a Development Manager who is passionate about the intersection of sports, advocacy, and philanthropy.  Working closely with the Director of Development, the Development Manager is responsible for engaging the AFH community and donor prospects to support our development efforts.  This position also assists with fundraising events and donor stewardship.

About the Position:

As the Development Manager, you’ll work closely with the Director of Development in a variety of areas, all targeted to diversify and enhance the organizational funding streams and relationships. 

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Donor Research & Outreach
    • Research & identify new corporate & foundation funders, particularly prospects for mid-major gifts
    • Lead a portion of relationships and donor pitches
    • Support “cold” donor prospect outreach and communication efforts
  • Strategic Planning
    • Assist the Director of Development in developing engagement strategies for current and prospective institutional donors, partners, and sponsors
    • Study industry and organizational data and trends to contribute to relevant and strategic fundraising approaches
  • Event Management
    • Support planning and execution of AFH’s annual events
  • Other Tasks/Responsibilities
    • Support donor stewardship tasks
    • Lead a portion of funding application submissions

Minimum Requirements:

  • No less than 3 years of fundraising experience in 3 or more of the following areas: sales, external fundraising, corporate sponsorship, donor prospect research, special events, grant writing and proposal development, donor stewardship and management
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and complete projects successfully as planned
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and donor-centered approach
  • Ability to think critically, problem solve, and build processes that ensure efficiency 
  • Prideful attention to detail
  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication abilities
  • Knowledge of professional, collegiate, Olympic and Paralympic sports landscape
  • Deep commitment to AFH’s mission and values
  • Proficient in using Google Suite, CRM, and Project Management Software

Compensation and Benefits:

This position is partially remote and will consist of a 40-hour per week commitment, with an annualized compensation of $50,000.  Preference will be given to candidates who live in the Washington, D.C. area.
