AFH University Service Recognition

March 2024 | Student-Athlete & Team of the Month

Each month we ask our AFH University campus liaisons for nominations of student-athletes and teams who excelled in service. Through our monthly nominations, we can acknowledge all of the good our student-athletes and teams are doing in their communities.

During March, our Student-Athlete and Team of the Month award winners dedicated their time to becoming the best role models they can be for Baton Rouge area youth.

March Student-Athlete of the Month

Kai Wince

Our March Student-Athlete of the Month is Kai Wince from Southern University women’s tennis. Kai was nominated by her peers because of her incredible work engaging elementary school children in physical fitness activities.

“Kai was eager to give back to the community and promote physical fitness for youth. During her last school visit at Progress Elementary, she made exercise fun through a series of activities.”

Giving back to her community is something that has become extremly important to Kai as well as her teammates.

As African American athletes we [Southern Tennis] think it’s important for the next generation to have role models that support healthy and active living as well as promoting a wide selection of sports.

Kai Wince, Southern Tennis

Aside from her contributions at Progress Elementary, the Southern University sophmore is not new to service. Before her time at SU, Kia was a senior spirit representative at Lausanne Collegiate School where she helped to plan student section themes at sporting events, homecoming events, fun school activities, and prom. At Southern, Kai has participated in the Baton Rouge Geaux Day, the Tennis Jag-a-thon, Jags Day on the Bluff and more!

Kai is honored to be named the March Student-Athlete of the Month and is excited to continue to make a difference in her community.

March Team of the Month

Louisiana State University (LSU) Track & Field

The March Team of the Month is LSU track & field. The team was nominated by their peers for their dedication to serving the youth in the Baton Rouge community.

“Throughout March, LSU Track & Field team members dedicated their efforts to serving youth. They spent time visiting patients at OLOL Children’s Hospital and volunteering as buddies at The Miracle League, an inclusive baseball league for youth with disabilities.”

The LSU track & field team has historically been involved in service throughout the Baton Rouge community where they have participated in Baton Rouge Geaux Day, read to elemetary school classrooms for Read Across America Day, and more.

The LSU track & field team is excited to recieve this award from their peers and looks forward to fostering more community relationships in the future.
