As we continue monitoring and responding to the COVID-19 crisis, Athletes for Hope is adjusting our focus to enable athletes to connect with and inspire the community during this challenging and unprecedented time.
In that spirit, we wanted to update you on what our team will be doing to spread hope during the coming days and months:
Reach out to our network of nonprofit organizations to better understand their needs and facilitate connections with our athletes who may be be able to fulfill those needs (ie Skype with a family in need, assemble a care package, send a letter of support, etc)
Share content focused around themes such as ways to stay physically active, remaining positive and overcoming adversity via social media
Highlight content across social media featuring leagues and athletes who are standing up to raise support in the fight against COVID-19 with the hope this will inspire others to help out as well
Nonprofits
If you are a nonprofit that has immediate volunteer needs, please submit your requests via this short form and one of our team members will get back with you as soon as possible. We know the burden of many community needs will fall upon your network, and we want to quickly ramp up to best support YOU during this crisis.
Amazon Wishlists
Does your nonprofit rely on donations of food and items to assist the public? Send us your Amazon Wishlist. Our broad network of athletes and partners can help promote these needs through leveraging their social media platforms.
Athletes
Here are four things you can do today to help out during the COVID-19 crisis:
AFH will be partnering with Classroom Champions to host daily Facebook Live sessions with children around the U.S. beginning on Monday, March 23rd. Each session will occur at 12pm EST and feature athletes who share insight around topics such as mindfulness, cooking, reading, staying active, and many more. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to cwyttenbach@athletesforhope.org.
Additionally, here are other ways you can give back during this challenging time:
- ChemoAngels: CardAngel-send cards to kids who are undergoing chemotherapy
- Operation Gratitude: Write letters to active duty soldiers or veterans
- UN Volunteers Online: Online volunteerism worldwide
- BeMyEyes: Bringing sight to low vision or blind people
- Project Linus: Make no sew blankets for children’s hospitals at home
AFH Fit Virtual Fitness Videos
Schools are shutting down and we want to help keep kids active at home with virtual athlete visits. To do so, our athletes will be inviting kids across the nation to stay fit by joining them as they demonstrate and practice their favorite at-home exercises. We have an incredible group of athlete members who are committed to helping kids and communities stay fit. Look for video content to be sent out Mondays and Wednesdays every week! We will be sending more information soon so stay tuned to our page for more information. If you are an athlete in our network that would like to send in a video to share with our larger network, please email them to contacts@athletesforhope.org.
Parents, please subscribe to the AFH YouTube channel for those weekly activity videos! And be sure to share videos of your kids and family participating along with Team AFH Fit by using @AthletesforHope (IG & Twitter) and #AFHAtHome. We can’t wait to see what you’ve got!
Want to track your fitness goals? Use our AFH Fit Tracking Logs.
Give Back & Give Thanks
In addition to getting up and moving with us, we also wanted to provide your child with an opportunity to express their gratitude. To do so, we’ve included a template that can be colored, filled out and sent to someone they are particularly appreciative of during this trying time. The power of a simple note from your child will put a smile on the face of those on the frontlines – doctors, nurses, pharmacists, grocery workers and many more. Before sending, make sure you show us how you’re spreading the love!
As we continue to hunker down during this incredibly difficult time, we remain eager to collaborate and discover unique ways to connect, support and serve in the virtual space or in your local communities. As additional details and updates roll in, you can expect the AFH team to communicate those with you so please keep an eye out for us in your inbox, check out our social media pages and head to our website for all the latest. We are thinking about all of you in our community who are struggling with this challenging situation and seek to spread hope by shining a light on those who are working to remain positive, healthy and support our community!
