Every one of us has someone who has inspired us to reach our full potential. This person may be a parent, coach, friend, teammate, or teacher. For many young people, mentoring relationships can make the difference in shaping the course of their lives. This January, as part of National Mentoring Month, Athletes for Hope is partnering with MENTOR, the national organization unifying and elevating the mentoring movement, to raise awareness of the importance of mentors. We would love to involve you, our amazing professional, Olympic, and college athlete members, in the following ways:
- On January 11 at 3pm EST, join your fellow AFH athletes, Mentor, and America’s Promise Alliance for a Twitter Chat to share your thoughts about the importance of mentors and how mentors may have played a role in your life.
- On January 25, “Thank Your Mentor Day”, share your story and thank those that have served as your mentor(s) using the hashtag #ThankYourMentor. Some of the ways we recommend participating include: recording a video with your mentor, posting pictures of you with your mentor, or sharing your favorite memory about you and your mentor. Click here for some #ThankYourMentor examples.
- Encourage your network to sign up to become mentors! Sample Tweet: 1 in 3 American youth don’t have a mentor’s support. Become a #MentorIRL today to provide the guidance they need.
Please contact us to let us know which of the options above might interest you, and we will send along more information.
