Position Overview:

Athletes for Hope (AFH) is seeking a motivated and relationship-driven professional to serve as the Assistant Director of the AFH University (AFH U) program. This role supports the management and growth of AFH U, a national program that empowers college athletes to explore leadership, life skills, and philanthropy while making meaningful impacts in their communities.

The Assistant Director will work closely with the AFH U Director, AFH staff, collegiate athletic departments, athletes, community partners, donors, and other key stakeholders to deliver high-quality programming, facilitate workshops, execute community events, and support fundraising efforts.

About AFH University Program:

The AFH University program (AFH U) was launched in 2013, with the goal of helping college athletes explore themes such as leadership, life skill development, their role in the community, and how to discover their philanthropic passions. Through AFH U, the AFH staff works with each participating varsity sports team to help them volunteer with vetted charitable organizations that match their passions. AFH promotes each AFH U community visit and initiative through its digital channels to raise awareness for the great work that both athletes and charities do in their communities. AFH U now has thousands of college athletes at chapters on 10 different University campuses throughout the U.S. The AFH U program is built on the power of sport and gives college athletes the opportunity to maximize their position as role models to make a positive impact in their communities.

AFH is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 2006 by Muhammad Ali, Mia Hamm, Andre Agassi, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Alonzo Mourning, Jeff Gordon, Warrick Dunn and 5 other legendary athletes. AFH educates, encourages, and empowers professional, Olympic, Paralympic, and college athletes to find their philanthropic passions and volunteer with community organizations and schools across the U.S. AFH is now led by the next generation of athlete leaders, including Stephen Curry, Katie Ledecky, Gabby Thomas, Nathan Chen, and Elena Delle Donne, and has become the largest athlete-led sports non-profit in the world with thousands of athlete members. Our core programs focus on underserved youth physical activity, leadership, mental health, positively impacting more than 300,000 underserved students every month.

Responsibilities:

In this role, the AFH U Assistant Director’s role will encompass the following responsibilities:

1. Help to build and manage relationships with collegiate athletic departments, athletes, new and existing funders, and other key national partners

2. Work in partnership with AFH U campus liaisons to facilitate athlete visits and build meaningful community programs

3. Plan and execute major community events in connection with AFH U partners

4. In collaboration with the AFH U Director and AFH’s Development Director, help AFH fundraise in support of all facets of the program

5. Conduct Causeway Philanthropic Education Workshops with AFH University Teams across different campuses

6. Build relationships and programming with AFH U alumni

7. In collaboration with the AFH digital team and AFH U Director, create and manage virtual engagement opportunities for AFH U athletes

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, sports management, education, communications, or related)

-5+ years of experience in nonprofit programs, collegiate athletics, or community-based initiatives

-Experience working with college athletes, athletic departments, or campus partners

-Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills

-Experience planning and executing events, workshops, or community programs

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-Ability to manage multiple projects across campuses and partners

-Passion for youth development, leadership, philanthropy, and social impact

-Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings/weekends

-Experience as a former college athlete is a plus

Employment Details:

This position is based remotely and will consist of a 40-hour per week commitment. The position will require frequent communication with the AFH staff and travel to various AFH U chapters throughout the year. Base salary will be $55,000 + benefits, which includes a 401k plan with a company match, and health insurance (if necessary).
