2025 Athlete Mental Health Week: Post-Event Recap

Athletes for Hope, in collaboration with the Hilinski’s Hope Foundation, the Kevin Love Fund, and the Sarah Shulze Foundation, successfully hosted the second annual Athlete Mental Health Week (AMHW) in 2025. This initiative aimed to amplify the voices of athletes at all levels and provide them with critical mental health resources through collective action, storytelling, and advocacy.

Overview and Participation

This year’s AMHW saw an overwhelming response from athletes, organizations, and mental health professionals. With the support of the Athlete Mental Health Alliance (AMHA), which now includes over 250 partners, we expanded our outreach and impact.

  • Total Participants: 296 signups (a 52% increase from 2024) representing athletes, coaches, parents, and clinicians from 20+ states and 10+ countries.
  • Social Media Reach: Over 129M+ impressions across press releases and social media engagements (with hashtags such as #AMHW2025)
  • Workshops & Webinars: 25+ virtual and in-person events featuring 45 expert speakers, licensed mental health professionals, and athlete advocates.
  • Resource Distribution: Collaborated with 20+ organizations to create the AMHW 2025 Resource Hub
    • Total: 100+ clickable resources
    • Videos: 40+ clickable recordings
    • Topics: 8 Sub Ss represented our topics from: Social Justice, Suicide prevention, Social & Spiritual Support, Sleep, Stress & Trauma, to Social Media.
    • Podcast Hub: 20+ clickable podcasts

Key Highlights

  • Athlete Spotlights & Testimonials: Powerful personal stories from athletes highlighted their mental health challenges and recovery journeys.
  • Panel Discussions & Live Conversations: 17 panels were hosted with 45 panelists from 18 organizations, fostering meaningful conversations on breaking the stigma surrounding mental health in sports.
  • Partnerships & Collaboration: Several new individuals and organizations joined our alliance, strengthening the network of support available to athletes.
  • University & Team Engagement: High school and collegiate teams hosted mental health awareness panels, team-wide check-ins, and peer support initiatives.
  • Resource Distribution: At college campuses existing mental health toolkits, coping strategy guides, and crisis resource lists were distributed throughout the week.

  • Breaking the Stigma: Participants emphasized the need to normalize conversations about mental health in sports, with athletes sharing struggles in balancing sports, academics, and personal life.
  • Resource Accessibility: Coaches and educators stressed the importance of providing accessible resources, including handouts, webinars, and workshops.
  • Holistic Support: Mental health professionals advocated for integrating mental health support with physical training and performance.
  • Youth Engagement: High school athletes and coaches demonstrated the power of youth-led initiatives in promoting mental health awareness among peers.
