Summary and Application Instructions

The Athletes for Hope (AFH) Mental Health Program Manager will support the Chief Wellbeing Officer in implementing and expanding the reach of AFH’s mental health initiatives. This person will help coordinate mental health programming, build relationships, manage key projects and partners, and engage athlete ambassadors. This is a mission-driven role ideal for someone with mental health experience, project management skills, and a passion for athlete wellbeing.

Position Description

Program Coordination & Execution

  • Assist in the execution of mental health programming, including workshops, panels, and events
  • Coordinate logistics for mental health awareness days/milestones throughout the year
  • Help manage the Athlete Mental Health Ambassador program

Relationship Management

  • Maintain and support key partnerships within the WBA and Athlete Mental Health Alliance (AMHA)
  • Liaise with mental health organizations, AFH staff, and athletes for collaborative projects

Communications & Storytelling

  • Support athlete storytelling efforts through written, video, and social platforms
  • Draft social media and promotional content for WBA initiatives
  • Assist with the development of thought leadership content

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Help track program impact using evaluation tools and metrics
  • Support reporting and documentation efforts for internal and external stakeholders

Administrative & Team Support

  • Coordinate intern and volunteer contributions under the WBA program
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Chief Wellbeing Officer
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings and contribute to long-term program development

Qualifications

  • A Master’s-level clinician (e.g., MSW, LPC, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent) with a strong interest in athlete mental health
  • 3–5 years of experience in program coordination, nonprofit management, athlete development, or mental health-related work
  • Background or education in psychology, social work, sports management, or related field preferred
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Experience with social media, storytelling, or advocacy a plus
  • Passion for mental health in sports and working with diverse athlete populations
  • Team player
