Yael Averbuch

BIOGRAPHY

Yael Friedman Averbuch was born November 3, 1986 in New York City. Both of her parents are runners and dad, Paul, ran track and cross country at Rutgers University and was a two-time U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier in 1980 and 1984. She is a June 2005 graduate of Montclair High School where she was a High Honor Roll student all four years in high school. She did not play high school soccer, but instead concentrated on club soccer. Attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she majored in Psychology. She quickly became one of the nation's premier college players. Yael started her entire freshman year at the holding center midfield position and then moved to the attacking center midfield spot as a sophomore and a junior. She is currently a member of the FC Sky Blue and has earned a deserved reputation for her deadly free kicks.


Athletic Accomplishments
  • Three-time returning letter winner at UNC
  • Earned national player of the year honors from Soccer Buzz and Top Drawer Soccer as a sophomore
  • NSCAA All-American honors in high school
  • Parade All-America as a junior and senior in high school
