Warrick Dunn

BIOGRAPHY

Since 1997, Warrick Dunn, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' superb running back, has been touching the hearts of single parents -- first in Tampa, then in Baton Rouge and Atlanta and now in Tallahassee. The Warrick Dunn Family Foundation and his Homes for the Holidays program have maintained the goal of keeping his late mother's dream of home ownership alive by assisting hard working single parents in owning their first home. Dunn provides additional cash towards a down payment on a house and then surprises the new owner by furnishing the house with everything a first-time homeowner would need including: furniture, food, linens, gardening supplies, washer, dryer, dishes, pots and pans, toothbrushes, etc.

After a prolific college career at Florida State University in which he set records for most career rushing yards (3,959) and most rushing yards in a season (1,242), Warrick was selected in the first round of the 1997 NFL Draft with the 12th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Warrick made an immediate impact for the Buccaneers, and at the season's end, he was selected to the NFC Pro Bowl team and was named the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year. Warrick spent the first five years of his career in Tampa Bay where he was named to the Pro Bowl twice (1998, 2000) before signing with the Atlanta Falcons in the 2002 off-season. Having led his team in rushing yards again in 2005, Warrick was again named to the NFL's Pro Bowl team. In 2007 Warrick was awarded the NFL's inaugural Home Depot Award which was created to recognize players who are making a positive impact in their local communities through charitable programs and contributions. Warrick returned to Tampa Bay and the Buccaneers in 2008.
