Tony Sanneh

BIOGRAPHY

Tony Sanneh, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, was born on June 1, 1971. After high school, where he was selected twice to the All-State Team, he went to on play soccer for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. As a striker he became the school’s all-time scoring leader, and was named an NCAA Second-Team All-American in 1993. In 1996, Sanneh joined D.C. United, leading the team to two consecutive MLS Cups. In 1999, he signed with Hertha Berlin of the German Bundesliga, and has played for a variety of teams since then. Most recently Sanneh was a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Sanneh Foundation was established in 2003 with the mission to assemble a supportive network within the community that provides positive environments for urban youth to become positive and productive adults. It currently funds two major programs: For All Youth, a cultural integration and anti-racism program, and Kick it Back, a program that promotes the need for new and used soccer shoes and distributes them to those in need. Sanneh continues to involve himself with a variety of philanthropic endeavors, including providing a free clinic and tickets to foster families, bringing a team from Haiti to Minnesota for the USA Cup, and developing afterschool programs in his community.
