Tiombe Hurd joins Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind fundraiserOn Saturday, September 10th, USA Track & Field Member Tiombe Hurd participated in the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) 5K run. She had a great time participating in the run and was really touched by the turn out for the event. There were many visually-impaired individuals, but there were even more people there to support the cause. Tiombe served as a guide for her blind CLB partner, and he was also the first blind person across the finish line. He insisted that they should run even though it would be much tougher for him. She mentioned that, “I had to curb my aggressiveness and stop myself from speeding up to pass other runners so that I didn’t drag Timothy too fast.” He loved her enthusiasm and wanted to push it. Tiombe is very competitive and wanted to show that they could win. Tiombe and her partner had a great time along with the rest of the people there. The crowd was very supportive which made for a wonderfully supportive atmosphere and a great event. Tiombe's partner was so thrilled that he is already talking about training for next year’s race. The Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind provides a comprehensive, integrated range of services including low vision care and rehabilitation, job development training, and employment for people of all ages whom are visually impaired or blind to enable them to remain independent.
