BIOGRAPHY

Steve Nash was born on February 7, 1974, in Johannesburg, South Africa. Growing up in Canada, he became interested in soccer and hockey at a young age. However, Nash ended up playing basketball around the age of 12 and he stuck with it. He had a very good career at St. Michaels University School, averaging 21.3 points per game, 11.2 assists per game, and 9.1 rebounds per game as a senior.

Upon graduation, Santa Clara University called Nash with a scholarship and he accepted. He put together an impressive college career, winning two West Coast Conference Player of the Year awards, was named an Honorable Mention All-American, and led Santa Clara to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Nash entered the 1996 NBA Draft upon graduating and was selected fifteenth overall by the Phoenix Suns.

Nash played his first two seasons at Phoenix. He was then traded to the Dallas Mavericks prior to the 1998-99 season, and it was with Dallas that Nash finally was able to establish himself. His breakout performance came in 2000-01 when he averaged 15.6 points per game and 7.3 assists per game. Nash has continued this success throughout his career, especially over the last three seasons, which he played with the Suns. Since rejoining the Suns for 2004-05, Nash has averaged over 15 points per game and 10 assists per game each season.

Aside from his basketball career, Nash started the Steve Nash Foundation which is dedicated to assisting underserved children in their health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life
