January 8, 2009 - AFH Members Diego Gutierrez and Allyson Felix Appointed to President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports
George W. Bush announced that retired MLS player Diego Gutierrez and Track and Field Gold Medalist Allyson Felix are among the newest appointees to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

The Council is an advisory committee comprised of volunteer citizens who advise the President about matters pertaining to physical activity, fitness, and sports in America. Gutierrez and Felix’s appointments run through May 3, 2010.

"This is such an honor for me and my family," said Gutierrez. "As a soccer player, to sit on a committee with the President and Secretary of Health and Human Services is humbling, but I look forward to the implementation of our collaborative ideas and programs that will ultimately help the American people."

Said Allyson, “January is already off to a fast, busy and great start! I was officially appointed to be on the President's Physical Fitness and Sports Council, this is a great privilege and something that I really look forward to being a part of. I was nominated by President Bush and will get to serve under one of my own personal heroes President Barack Obama.
