O’Reilly Scores with Clinic at NYC Elementary School
On February 17th, Heather O’Reilly stopped by Public School 325 in West Harlem, New York, to visit an America SCORES New York winter soccer clinic. O’Reilly was a member of the US Women’s National Soccer Team that won gold at the 2004 and ’08 Olympic games. Upon meeting the children in a classroom, she shared her experiences on and off the field. After, she fielded questions from the third – fifth grade poet-athletes. After answering all of the questions, O’Reilly then led the group in warm-up exercises in the school gym. Then she proceeded to coach one of the teams during a mini-soccer tournament.

“Heather is the perfect role model for our students, as she represents the vision of the well-rounded athlete who continues to give back to the community and who understands the value of service. It has been a week since Heather’s visit, but the moment is still fresh in our students’ minds. Just today, I had a female student tell me how cool it was to meet a real professional female soccer player because she didn't know that there was such a thing. This form of inspiration is incredibly valuable to organizations such as America SCORES New York, and so we are truly grateful when professional athletes are able to share their time with us,” said Rob Uvanovic, West Harlem Program Manager, America SCORES New York.
