December 11, 2008 – Twenty-one Olympic Athletes visit the Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club Twenty-one Olympic Athletes visit the Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club On Thursday December 11, the kids at the Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club were treated to a visit by twenty-one US Olympians. They arrived at 6:00pm, introduced themselves and their sport and then moved around the club to join the kids in various activities – arts & crafts, toys and games. The kids were able to meet and play with all the athletes and afterwards ask questions and take pictures. Each child received an Olympic pin to take home as a gift. This 25,000-square-foot facility features a library, computer lab, indoor basketball court, three outdoor tennis courts and a teen center. The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation has given more than $4 million for construction, capital improvements and program operations to the club, including ongoing funding for the Team Agassi junior tennis program and Agassi Stars youth basketball program. These two sports programs were created by the Foundation to provide at-risk youth with the opportunity to realize their athletic and academic potential with the goal of obtaining college scholarships. |
