BIOGRAPHY

Missy was born on July 4, 1964. She is an extremely well-known long distance runner who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 33. In 2000 she became the first athlete with diabetes to qualify for the Olympic Marathon trials. Missy Graduated from the University of North Carolina and is continuing her education as she pursues a PhD in Medical History. She is an advocate for children with diabetes and for women’s fitness as she travels the nation speaking on inspirational subjects.

  • 1997, 1998 Carolina Runner of the Year
  • USA Track & Field Athlete Development Award 1998, 1999
