February 13, 2008 - US Soccer's Kristine Lilly visits Boston Children's Hospital On Wednesday February 13, Kristine went up to the Boston Children's Hospital to visit with the kids and interview for their monthly in-hospital television show for kids. Kristine wrote about her experience on her website. Here is what she had to say:
"Yesterday I was so fortunate to be able to visit Children's Hospital of Boston. There is an organization called Athletes for Hope that matches athletes up with community service or activities in their area. I wanted to visit the Children's Hospital so that is what I did yesterday. It was great.
They have a TV show that airs in all the kids rooms once a month and I was interviewed on that. I brought my gold medal from Athens, some player cards to sign and some Lilly Bears that I had. I got to meet a bunch of the women on staff there, that were great and a handful of kids that were able to leave their rooms and come down to a common area to watch the show and do arts and crafts. I met Abigail, Melissa, Lauren, Gianna and Yramys. They all are in the hospital for different reasons but were able to manage smiles as I came around to take picutures and give them some of my goodies.
It was a nice to be able to stop by and see the kids and hopefully give a bit of light/hope for what they are all going through. I know I am not amazing but it was nice that I was able to come by and visit and share some things with you. All those kids in there are so much tougher and stronger than I am and everyday they show it in their smiles. There was one boy I didn't meet but a friend of his came down to take a picture with me and I gave her my medal to bring up to his room. She said he was all excited and showed me the picture. He had his transplant yesterday so let's pray that it goes well. Jason I am thinking of you!"
