AFH Founder Jackie Joyner-Kersee Honored with First Ladies in Sport Award

Congratulations to Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Olympic legend and AFH founding athlete, who was honored with the First Ladies in Sport Award on May 20th.

Team-Up for Youth, a national non-profit that aims to create after-school sports opportunities for girls and boys that build their confidence and skills, connect them to mentors and improve their prospects in school and in life, hosted the event called Game Plan for Girls’ Sports: Igniting a Practice of Change on May 20th and 21st in downtown San Francisco.

This two day summit began with an award reception on the evening of May 20th. Jackie Joyner-Kersee, winner of 6 Olympic medals in 4 consecutive Olympics received Team-Up for Youth's First Ladies in Sports Award. This award honors Joyner-Kersee's endless trail-blazing for women and girls and continual inspiration for girls to reach their highest potential against all odds.

On Friday May 21st, invited community and non-profit leaders, policymakers, university faculty, alumni, community and college volunteers, and youth participants came together to develop skill sets, and share collective insights and ideas for growth in girls' athletic programming. The keynote address was given by WNBA star and Athletes for Hope All-Star, Yolanda Griffith.

Throughout the day, attendees were able to attend workshops arranged around three tracks: Building Sustainable After-School Sports Programs, Strong Sports Programs, and The Art of Coaching.
