San Francisco Giants Visit Walter Reed Army Medical CenterOn Saturday, July 10, 2010 San Francisco Giants catchers Buster Posey and Eli Whiteside spent a couple hours of their afternoon giving back to the Washington, D.C community. In town for their series against the Washington Nationals, the two baseball players visited the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. This center is the hub of the Walter Reed Health Care System which provides comprehensive health care for more than 150,000 soldiers, other service members, family members and retirees. During their visit, Buster and Eli met with five different patients and their families. They listened to the troops’ incredible stories and discussed their backgrounds with one another. The Giants players also talked about some of their baseball experiences and asked the soldiers questions. They were extremely moved by the strength of the patients they met, and inspired by their stories. Buster reflected that this visit really put things in perspective. “These are guys our age that have sacrificed so much so that we can live the way we do,” he said. Eli also expressed his gratitude for the armed service members: “I can’t thank them enough for what they do and sacrifice.” |
