Etan Thomas of the Atlanta Hawks Visits Prince George's Correctional FacilityOn September 15, 2010 Atlanta Hawks Center Etan Thomas spent nearly two hours speaking to juvenile inmates at the Prince George’s Correctional Facility in Upper Marlboro, MD. Etan previously visited inmates at the facility during his time with the Washington Wizards and had such a great experience that he felt compelled to return. “This is something I have a passion for doing – I enjoyed talking to the guys, telling them a different way to go and just giving them words of encouragement,” Etan said. During his visit, Etan spoke about several important themes such as making the right decisions, rebounding from your mistakes, and overcoming obstacles to achieve your dreams. Etan shared insight about his own background growing up between Harlem and Tulsa and he performed two of his poems through “spoken word” for the inmates. The inmates had many questions for Etan and enjoyed the opportunity to meet and speak with him. Following his speech, Etan couldn’t believe that two hours had gone by so quickly – he had a fantastic time and is looking forward to visiting again when he returns from his upcoming season with the Atlanta Hawks.
