Washington Wizards Center, Etan Thomas, Spends the Spring Getting Involved in the Washinton, DC Area Community
Etan Thomas has had a busy spring. Earlier this season, he joined fellow NBA players: Tracy McGrady, Derek Fisher, Baron Davis, Luol Deng and Jermaine O’Neal in the Darfur Dream Team Sister Schools Program. The program is a partnership with the USA for UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and seeks to connect American middle schools, high schools, colleges, and universities with sister schools in the 12 refugee camps in Chad. The two main objectives of the program are: (1) to provide a quality education to every refugee child from Darfur through sponsorship of individual refugee camp schools and (2) to develop connections between students from Darfur and the U.S.

This month, Etan participated in the White House Easter Egg Roll with other DC athletes, and played with the participating you.

On April 23rd, Etan presented an award at the Gondobay Manga Foundation’s Inaugural Dinner. The Gondobay Manga Foundation advocates cooperative planning to achieve positive, timely improvements in the lives of the people of Sierra Leone. By uniting passionate people, The Foundation strives for immediate impact by addressing one village at a time.

Etan also spoke to the senior class at Bowie High School on April 30th at their final assembly and encouraged them to stay focused and reach their goals.

Recently, Etan joined with Miss Black DC, Breyuna L. Williams, for the “Think Big: Big: You Are What You Think You Are” Tour. Etan spoke at J.G. Whittier Education Center in April and then spoke with his wife Nichole at Eastern Senior High School in Anacostia.
