May 28, 2008 - Washington Wizards Etan Thomas Visits Newport Mill Middle School

On Wednesday May 28, Etan Thomas of the Washington Wizards visited the Newport Mill Middle School in Kensington, Maryland. Etan shared his story about growing up in Harlem, and taught the students the importance of following your dreams no matter what path you choose. He explained how over the course of his life many people and coaches have told him he wasn’t good enough, or wasn’t big enough to succeed, but he stayed strong and followed his beliefs. He used that doubt to help motivate him to become the great basketball player that he is today. He concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of helping others, and giving back to the community.

After the speech, Etan signed autographs and took pictures with all of the students. Etan loves speaking to young students and plans on speaking at another school very shortly.
