August 16, 2008 - 2000 Beach Volleyball Gold Medalist Eric Fonoimoana Helps KaBOOM Build a New Playground at the Compton YMCAAfter retiring from Beach Volleyball in July, Eric Fonoimoana wasn't in Beijing to compete for another Gold Medal. Instead, he was home in California, and spent the morning of August 16th at the YMCA of Greater Los Angeles helping volunteers from KaBOOM and Washington Mutual build a brand new playground for the kids at the Compton site. Eric spoke briefly to the volunteers about his experience at the Olympics, then complimented KaBOOM on the wonderful work they do in the community and said how excited he was to be involved. After the kickoff, everyone got down to work to build the playground. Eric showed why he was known around the AVP as "The Body" by helping to mix the concrete and move the playground equipment into place. |
