Chris Wingert

BIOGRAPHY

Chris Wingert was born in Babylon, New York, the son of Noreen and Norman, a former professional soccer player who played goalkeeper for the Philadelphia Atoms of the NASL. After also playing tennis at St. John the Baptist High School, Chris went on to play soccer for the St. John’s University Red Storm. A member of St. John’s President’s Society and NCSAA Scholar-Athlete Award winner, he graduated from St. John’s with a degree in Communication Arts. He was selected 12th by the Columbus Crew in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft and currently plays defense for Real Salt Lake. Chris made his first appearance with the US National Team, against Sweden on January 24, 2008.

Athletic Achievements
  • 2003 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy at St. Johns University, becoming the first person to earn both the Hermann and Scholar-Athlete Awards in the same season
  • Played in the NCAA College Cup in 2001 and 2003
  • Played on the US Under-23 National Team from 2002 until 2004
