Carin Gabarra

BIOGRAPHY

Carin Gabarra began her soccer career at the University of California Santa Barbra, were she was a four-year member of the women’s soccer team. During her time on the team she scored 102 goals, setting a national record, and earning her induction in the school’s Hall of Fame. She was a member of the USA women’s national soccer team from 1987 to 1996, and led the team to much international success. She was awarded the Golden Ball Award for her performance at the 1991 Women’s World Cup. Before retiring from professional soccer, she helped the 1996 US Olympic team win its first gold medal.

Although she is no longer an active player, soccer remains an integral part of Carin’s life. She started coaching soon after her college graduation, at Westmont College in Santa Barbra. She went on to coach at Harvard before taking her current position in 1993 at the US Naval Academy. As the head coach of the Navy women’s soccer team, she has developed the team from club status to varsity that has seen three NCAA tournament appearances and has had 15 consecutive winning seasons.
