Annika Sorenstam

BIOGRAPHY

Annika Sorenstam was born in Stockholm, Sweden. She started playing golf alongside her sister Charlotta, another member of the LPGA Tour, when she was twelve years old. After joining the Swedish National Golf Team in 1987, Annika enrolled at the University of Arizona in 1990. She turned professional and earned non-exempt status on the LPGA Tour in 1994. Sorenstam decided to step away from professional golf after the 2008 season, and married Mike Mcgee in January 2009. Annika holds Swedish-American dual citizenship and continues to pursue other interests that include her recently founded ANNIKA Foundation.

Athletic Achievements
  • Won 90 international tournaments as a professional golfer, including 72 LPGA Tour Events
  • Won 10 LPGA Major Tournaments throughout her career
  • Named Swedish Golfer of the Year nine times
  • Won LPGA Player of the Year and Golf Writers Association of America Female Player of the Year eight times
  • Won the LPGA Vare Trophy, for lowest scoring average over a season, six times
  • Named the Jerringpriset Swedish Athlete of the Year in 1995 and 2003
  • 1994 LPGA Rookie of the year
  • 1992 World Amateur Championship
  • NCAA All-American 1991 and 1992, NCAA Co-Player of the Year in 1991 and Pac-10 Champion in 1992
