Angie Taylor Shares Life Lessons with Young Women at Hearts & HomesOn Monday, January 25th, Angie Taylor visited Hearts & Homes. Angie, a new member to AFH, is a former heptathlete from Illinois State. After years of coaching at the collegiate level, she now serves as the Assistant Athlete Director for Coppin State. On Monday, Angie brought along some of her student-athletes from Coppin State to participate in the visit. While at Hearts & Homes, Angie talked to a group of young women about a variety of topics including life experiences, the importance of education, parenting, and more. To make the visit more engaging, Angie prepared an ice breaker activity, trust exercise, and a discussion of lessons learned from the evening. The young women thoroughly enjoyed the exercise, and Angie & the student-athletes look forward to visiting again in the future! Angie was one of 35 AFH members from across the country who volunteered their services on MLK. Initiated by Congress in 1994, the King Day of Service transforms the federal holiday into a national day of community service grounded in Dr. King’s teachings of nonviolence and social justice. The Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that oversees the nation’s domestic service initiatives, led the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service in partnership with the King Center and nonprofits, community groups, schools, and businesses across the country.
