BIOGRAPHY
Amanda Stevens was born and raised in Enid, Oklahoma. Involved in sports since the age of three, she competed at the national level in swimming at 14 and also pursued elite status as a gymnast. During her senior year in high school, Stevens began to narrow her focus, and swimming became her chosen path.
Stevens went on to have a successful NCAA Division I swimming career as a scholarship athlete at Texas Christian University. She received degrees in both Biology and Chemistry and graduated Magna Cum Laude. After undergraduate school, she simultaneously began medical school at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) and continued swimming, training in hopes of making the 2000 Olympics. During this time, Stevens earned a 4.0 GPA in her first year of medical school and also discovered the sport of triathlon. After only a few months in the sport, she won the 2001 USA National Triathlon Championships. She then completed her second year of medical school, maintained her 4.0 GPA and successfully passed the National Boards Exam before taking a leave of absence from medical school to focus on making it to the 2004 Olympics.
Following the Olympic Trials, Stevens returned to Oklahoma University and completed her degree in 2006. In addition, Stevens is a motivational speaker for Making It Count, a high school program that reaches over 2 million students nationwide and is sponsored by a number of Fortune 500 companies. She also speaks at grade schools through the Adopt-a-Doc project, which is part of the Schools for Healthy Lifestyles initiative. She is currently in Colorado Springs, CO training for future triathlons.
